In a class on experiential design led by Keetra Dean Dixon, I collaborated with Robert O'Connell on a conditional design workshop.
Each person was given a ball of string and asked to spell out their name by hooking the string on each letter around the room.
This simple activity brought a lot of joy to the group. As the room became more and more of a spider’s web of colorful string people had to start using team work to throw the balls of string back and forth to finish spelling their names. This wild transformation of the otherwise dull space got a lot of people taking pictures and posting on instagram. This was part of what sparked my interested in researching and designing spaces that provoke certain kinds of emotions, behaviors and actions.
